WOODS

Size: 11 X 14 inches
Medium: Oil on Pintura Canvas Panel
Price: $ 350
|
Info
About This Piece,
This small cabin provides an interesting subject
for painting. It is located in the Shaw Nature
Reserve near Gray's Summit in Missouri. I liked
this scene for it's' contrasting elements of
highlight and shadow, warm tones against
cool colors, and straight architectural lines
softened by surrounding masses of vegetation.
The November sun began to shine by noon melting
the morning frost and illuminating a welcoming
pathway to the cabin door. |

About This Piece,
I painted this farmstead near
Columbia, Illinois in the company
of several other artists. It was
a cool Spring morning and passing
clouds cast changing patterns of
sunlight and shadow over the
fields, The remnants of last
years corn crop were still
in evidence, however bustling
activity around the farm
suggested that these fields would
soon be reworked and planted. |

BUSY HIGHWAYS
Location, Highway 55, St. Louis
MO
Date Painted: November 19, 2006
Size: 12 X 9 inches
Medium: Oil on Pintura Canvas Panel
Price: $300
|
Info
About This Piece,
This painting was done during a plein air event
called a "Quick-Draw" Competition because
artists were given just three hours to
locate their scene, get it painted, and deliver
their completed work to the judges. I found this
scene on Highway 55 near the Budweiser Brewery
looking north toward the Gateway Arch. Painting
was a race against the clock, but I felt this
result captured the excitement and vitality of
these busy highways. |

About This Piece,
It was a bright, cold winter morning when I

this scene. Our day began with a mixture of
sunshine, clouds and intermittent snow flurries.
Morning temperatures were round 8 degrees, but
by noon it warmed up to 25 degrees and we
rejoiced when the sun appeared for several
hours. A farm cat even ventured out briefly to
sit in the sun by the barn door. . |

Info
About This Piece,
I found this old crane on the river front just
south of downtown St. Louis in an industrial
area designed for shipping and receiving of
barge cargo. Today most of the hoisting and
loading equipment in this area appears to be
waiting patiently for the return of more
prosperous times. I wanted to paint this rusting
old crane because it recalled past commercial
and industrial vitality that distinguished this
section of the Mississippi River.

RESTORED FARM
HOUSE
Location: Clinton, Missouri
Date Painted: September,
2003
Size: 12 x 9 inches
Medium: Oil on Pintura
Canvas Panel
Price: $300
|
Info
About This Piece,
Clinton Missouri is a city of
restored Victorian era homes. It
has a modern downtown, but they
have also carefully preserved and
restored many of the historic
buildings within the city. An
authentic frontier farm and
museum have been constructed in a
city park just off the Town
Square. This fine old log cabin
is one the several main
structures within the farm. I
couldnt resist painting it
with its bower of climbing
roses. The larger metropolitan
buildings of downtown are visible
in the background of this
painting.

Info
About This Piece,
I painted this picture of the
Tapestry Room Restaurant in the
historic downtown of Lebanon,
Illinois during a plein air paint
outing with my son Shawn. This
historic town is a great place
for artists because of the many
interesting scenes and subjects
to be found along the restored
portions of old St Louis Street.
It was a warm day so we set up
our easels in the shade where we
had a clear view across the
street and down the length of
these beautiful old Victorian
buildings.

COVERED BRIDGE AT
SUNSET
Location: Somewhere in Kentucky
Date Painted: December 5, 2005
Size: 20 X 24 inches
Medium: Oil on Stretched Canvas
Price: $1000
|
Info
About This Piece,
The inspiration for this scene came from a photo
on an old calendar dated 1965. The title was
simply: "A covered bridge in Kentucky". I especially
liked the combination of warm reflections and
soft shadows along this stream. It seemed a good
place to take a leisurely evening stroll. Covered
bridges have universal appeal for travelers –
perhaps it the idea of safe passage and
protection from the elements.

Info
About This Piece,
This painting of the historic
Bothwell Chapel was done at
McKendree University, in Lebanon,
Illinois. Throughout the day as I painted, a
gentle rain was falling so I
found shelter beneath a
convenient evergreen. The quiet
mood of the day was contrasted by
cheerful highlights of the redbud
and flowering crab apple trees.
